Due to the coronavirus crisis, the decision has been taken to postpone the summer school, which is currently scheduled from June 22nd to July 3rd 2020 in Torino, Italy.

The safety of participants is of course of utmost importance to us. Moreover, ongoing disruptions to travelling could severely affect participation and impair key objectives of the summer institute. EITM does not only offer a learning opportunity but also the possibility of building a community of scholars and facilitating in-person interactions between established scholars and young researchers.

We are laying plans to run the same program in 2021, tentatively from June 28th to July 9th, in the same location. Accordingly, your applications to both the summer school and the scholarship remain valid and will be carried over to the 2021 edition. We will make also arrangements to reimburse the applicants who have paid the administration fee and will not be able to attend the institute in 2021.

In due time, we will open registration for the 2021 edition and get back in touch with the existing applicants.

EITM Europe 2020 – Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models Summer Institute

New Developments in Designs and Methods in Survey Research

The Empirical Implication of Theoretical Models Summer Institute is a training program, developed in the United States for graduate students and junior faculty, on the development and application of research designs that integrate theoretical models with empirical research with the purpose of advancing our understanding of politics. The EITM Europe is a similar program, based in Europe and directed by Thomas König of the University of Mannheim, Germany.

The 2020 edition of EITM Europe will take place from 22 June until 5 July 2020 at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Turin, Italy. It is directed by Thomas König (University of Mannheim) in collaboration with Fabio Franchino (NASP-University of Milan).

The program provides an introduction to basic concepts as well as the most recent developments in research design diagnosis and survey research with a particular focus on causal inference and the design, analysis, and application of survey experiments. The courses will be taught by leading scholars in four modules (plus a refresher course).

The faculty includes: James Lo (University of Southern California), Thomas Bräuninger (University of Mannheim), Graeme Blair (UCLA), and Richard Traunmüller (University of Mannheim).

The EITM Europe 2020 summer institute is supported by the University of Mannheim, the University of Milan, the Essex Summer School, the Collegio Carlo Alberto, the foundation Compagnia di San Paolo, the Network for the Advancement of Social and Political Studies (NASP), and the ECPR Standing Group on Analytical Politics and Public Choice.

Information on financial support for attending the summer school will be advertised in due time. For further information, please contact Marta Migliorati at eitmeu@nasp.eu.

The application deadline for the EITM 2020 summer institute is May 1, 2020. Applications that arrive after the deadline will not be considered. Tuition depends on the chosen package.
